Al-‘Ama’ir of Bani Khalid
The sheikhly house of AL Thawawdah in Bahrain belongs solidly to the Al-‘Ama’ir of the Bani Khalid tribe — people of the sword and the sea — from the ‘Ama’ir islands on the eastern coast, through Zubarah and Fariha, to their settlement in Al-Hidd within the tribal alliance of the Al Khalifa.
Our ancestors took part in the Battle of Zubarah (1783 CE) and owned large pearling vessels that became coastal defence in times of crisis — recorded in the Gazetteer of the Persian Gulf and British Residency archives.
